Introduction

This course examines key aspects of international and intellectual property law. Topics will include copyright, patents, trademarks, designs, geographical indications, and other related rights. The course also examines how intellectual property law balances interests (e.g., creativity, innovation, technological development, access, use), and current issues and emerging debates in intellectual property such as traditional knowledge, cultural heritage, food security and access to genetic resources.

Objectives

This course aims, through a treatment of laws relating to patents, trademarks, confidential information, designs and copyright, to examine the protection provided by the law regarding ideas, inventions, information, and other forms of creative effort.
