Introduction
Argument and Critical Thinking teaches these methods and applies them to real-life arguments, both written and spoken. It is thus an introduction to communication and applied logic.
Objectives
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Identify the main issue of an argument.
- Identify premises of an argument.
- Identify the main conclusion of an argument and demonstrate an understanding of its significance.
- Identify value assumptions in an argument.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the difference between effective and ineffective arguments.
- Examine different types of arguments and identify some common fallacies.
- Identify unclear and emotive language in an argument.
- Conduct library research as appropriate;
